PROFESSIONAL BIKE FITTING

I went in for a bike fit, and left thinking this is the best money I have ever spent on a bike related product or service.
— Joey Hartsock, road cyclist
Mitch is the ultimate professional. He treats everyone with respect, whether you are a newbie like myself, or a seasoned rider. The fit is worth it, whether buying (a bike from him) or not. He spent the time making me practice unclipping from my pedals to reduce chances of falls, as well as appropriate shifting, riding areas. 3 weeks after my bike purchase he emailed me to ask if there were any issues that he could assist with. Best bike shop experience ever.
— Lester Doplechan, recreational road rider

You invest countless hours on your bike and trainer every year. For most cyclists - a professional bike fit is a rare, sometimes once in a lifetime experience.

For your time and money, make the most out of that fitting experience.

Do I need a bike fit? Everyone who loves riding their bicycle, and has never been professionally fit to their bicycle before - should experience it. It’s not just for “racers.” This very intelligent investment you make will net you more positive outcomes than any other purchase you can make for your bike. That is why we have included the professional bike fit with bike purchase for nearly 30 years…we believe it is consistent with our belief in adding value.

What are your credentials? Eric Peters began racing mountain bikes in the late 90’s and quickly embraced road, criterium, and cyclocross racing. Although Eric doesn’t race as often or as intensely as he did in his 20s and early 30s, he still toes the line a few times a year in various disciplines to ensure his fit styles match the racing styles. ie: There is a difference between a cyclocross position and a road position. Eric has studied the human body in great detail through his degrees in Exercise Science (AAS) and Physical Therapy (PTA Lic. #07628). Combining his previous knowledge of racing, strength and conditioning, biomechanics, and bike mechanics, Eric strives for perfection in his own riding as well as yours. With Erg, you will experience Eric’s extensive background in Exercise Science and Physical Therapy (PT) combined with years of racing and working on bikes. He has worked for several years in Sports and Orthopedic PT, treating injury and post-op conditions from head to toe. Eric takes particular interest in orthopedic conditions affecting the lower back, hips, as well as the complex biomechanics regarding the foot and ankle. Biomechanics of the foot and ankle, in particular, play an enormous role in cleat, shoe, and foot placement with regard to the bike. Prior to his work in PT, Eric worked for many years as a mechanic for various bike shops in the Columbus, Ohio area.

I’m very happy that I went with the Retul fit. I can tell a huge difference, especially while climbing, I just feel much more comfortable on the bike.
— Mike Wissman, 36, adventure racer

When should I get my bike fit? The sooner in your cycling career the better. We recommend having a bike fit performed prior to investing in your first serious bike. Finding a safe, confidence-inspiring position to ride those first miles will ensure lifelong enjoyment and ability. Follow-up visits are advisable as needed by client.

Just touching base to let you know my rides since the Retul fit have been awesome! I can’t thank you enough, I’m having the best rides ever.
— Cathy Doxey, 60, IM triathlete

You come recommended by friends.  Many shops offer bike fitting, so why get my fit at BioWheels?  Whichever shop you are looking at for your bike fit, ask them these questions… Is bike fitting their primary business, or is it an afterthought? Is their fitter highly rated by the IBFI? Are they rated at all by the IBFI? Do they use premium technology and fit protocol - used by only the top bike fitters world-wide? Do they utilize a digital sit bone measuring device, as well as stock over 100 performance saddles all the time? What’s their selection of footwear look like? Do they fit 400 clients each year? Do they pull fit clients from up to a 6 hour travel distance? You get the idea - experience and investment matters in quality fitting results. For many cyclists a professional bike fit is a once in a lifetime experience…. so make the most of it.

Where I live (Florida), there are no bike fitting locations within a few hundred miles. So when I came home for Christmas this year, my brother suggested Mitch to me. The fit alone was phenomenal. My previous geometry was all wrong and I didn’t know what “right” felt like until now. The fit had an added bonus of helping me decide between a few bike brands I was debating between for my next tri ride. Very happy with my experience here.
— Kaitlyn Kinney, 28, triathlete

What days do you schedule fits? How long does a fitting take?  We schedule bike fits on Thursdays - Saturdays 2-3 times per day. On average, the fitting takes between 2 and 3 hours.

Where is a good place to stay while I’m in town for my bike fit? The Hampton Inn in Kenwood has been very popular, and is only a 5 minute drive from the shop (or 15-20 minute ride). The link to their website is HERE.

What is the cost for a fitting?  The cost for our pro bike fit service, the most thorough bike fitting service offered in the Ohio Valley, is $375. The average fit session runs between $600-1000 when accounting for suggested touchpoint improvements such as saddle, shoes, insoles.  Additional types of bikes can be fit after the first for $175 each. If buying a bike from BioWheels, the fitting is included at no charge. Follow-up fittings run $100/hr (minimum $200).

He’s the only real place to go for a full, professional, and high tech bike fit around here. Going in, I thought the price was a little much but after getting the fit I now see why it costs what it does. 100% worth it. I will be going back for additional fits in the future.
— Max Graman, 24, road cyclist

What do I bring along for my bike fit appointment? First and most importantly, your bike(s) you are wanting to have fit for you. If you haven’t bought one yet, then we will be using our GURU fitting bike so having a bike is not necessary. Additionally, bring comfortable cycling clothes you normally wear for your rides - cycling shorts, shoes, and jersey (sleeveless if you have one). If you need to purchase clothing, we have a wide selection of performance cycling shorts, shoes, socks in stock you can pick up before your session.

So I needed a road bike fit and started calling bike shops. Mitch picked up and worked me in the next day. The process, knowledge, and results were fantastic. In the end my bike is where I need it to be to prevent injury and go fast & efficient. It’s nice to deal with the owner with all those years of experience. It shows. The process was so easy for him but effective for me. I truly feel like I am on a different/better bike. Also, unlike other fits I have had, Mitch was never upselling me on a bunch of new stuff for my bike. Don’t go anywhere else!!!!!
— Grant Johnson, 35, recreational road cyclist

Had an awesome Retul bike fit from Mitch. The same day I completed my new bike fit, I went on a 3 hour ride and was 12 watts higher and my cadence increased by 10 RPM throughout the duration of the ride. This was on the same course, at the same heart rate, eating the same food as the previous week. I was honestly shocked and would be happy to share power files if you want to see proof. Thanks BioWheels!
— Kris Karwisch, 35, mountain biker

What technology do you use during a fit?  Nothing is more important to a quality bike fit than an experienced and educated fitter with a good eye.  That said, there is some incredible technology available for fitters to add objective data to the fit session, heighten the overall experience of the client being fit, and significantly reduce the margin for fitter error.  We use Retul 3d motion capture cameras on both sides of the client to provide accurate information to assist in the problem-solving.  We also use the GURU DFU fitting bike, a computerized and motorized, infinitely-adjustable bike that makes creating different positions easy.  See the video up above for a demonstration.

I am in the market for a new bike. What should I do regarding a bike fit? Always do the fit before purchase if possible. Many bike brands have inaccurate sizing information posted on their websites (Canyon online sizing almost always ends up with too small a bike recommended). Go into the buying process educated about your needs, especially if you are a new rider. Insure that your new bike can handle your optimal fit by having your fit done before buying. We will go over possible good bike choices with you, and email you your measurements afterwards.

After 15 years of distance running, my knees, lower back and ankles had said “enough”. I am 5 weeks and over 250 miles on my new Cervelo and everything feels great. The time Mitch put into not only fitting me into the right bike and measurements but also teaching me how to properly ride it has yielded fantastic results and enjoyment. Thanks Mitch and BioWheels!

I went for a 20 mile ride yesterday. Wow! What a difference. My pedal stroke was so effortless! I have not been on the bike for a few weeks and the soreness that I usually have in my neck and back was not there. I usually have some minor chafing/friction as well. None of that was there. Amazing! Most noticeable was the inserts for the shoes. Kudos to you for your fitting process.
— Tom Carleton (fitness road rider)
Add me to the long list of happy customers who have benefited tremendously from Mitch’s fitting service. I thought I fit myself to my new bike fairly well but was experiencing some annoying knee pains and occasional numbness. Mitch’s thorough analysis and top notch equipment revealed that my ideal riding position was way off from what I thought was correct. It was an eye opener to say the least. After major adjustments to my saddle and bar positions, I’m now riding pain free and more efficiently. I can’t recommend a pro bike fit at Biowheels enough. There are other fitters in town but Mitch’s reputation speaks for itself!
— Stephen Rajek (fitness road)

How private is the bike fit session? Since our shop focuses on performance - we are much quieter than the average shop. So any fit session time, even during our walk-in hours, is relatively private. For the most quiet fitting session, we recommend you choose the 8am appointment time, or anytime Sundays and Mondays, where we do not have walk-in hours.

How do I go about signing up?  Bike fitting is by appointment only. For a bike fit appointment, please book online at one of the links on this page. When booking, please leave in the notes section for Eric your goals for coming in. Are you experiencing pain or discomfort? Is your saddle or shoes uncomfortable. Looking for more power or aerodynamics? Whatever your goals are. If you are having any problems securing an appointment online at a convenient date or time, please email Mitch via the “Contact” page on this website. He is very flexible and can accommodate most requests.

Hi Mitch, I can’t believe it’s been almost a month since I got my bike fit. So far, I’ve rode ~500 of the most comfortable miles since I purchased my bike. The knee pain that I had been experiencing evaporated quickly after the fit, and with the help of some of those core exercises, you sent me, my back has been feeling better on longer rides. I wish I had decided to come in sooner. Thank you so much for your help.
— Collin P, road cyclist
I can’t describe how much better my bike feels...my legs stayed fresh and I could tell a huge difference in efficiency and power..it felt fantastic and I can tell a major difference. I believe everything will continue to improve with each ride and I want to thank you for this.

I went in for a bike fit, and left thinking this is the best money I have ever spent on a bike related product or service. I have been biking seriously for 3.5 years, mainly road, and had done many centuries, multi-day events, and trained indoors and outdoors consistently. Prior to seeing Mitch at BioWheels I had two bike fits (one from a VERY reputable brand and another from a PT) yet going into the appointment I had all of the classic issues still; numb hands, sore traps, saddle sores, and numb toes/feet, and with all of those issues I never felt comfortable or in a strong athletic position on the bike. Finally, I had enough with being uncomfortable. After I left BioWheels all of that changed. Mitch looked at every aspect of my fit; shoes, cleat position, saddle height, the drop of my handlebars, and my posture on the bike as it related to my goals and abilities. When I went on my test ride with the new fit, I was over the moon ecstatic. Two rides in and I haven’t had any of my previous issues and feel rejuvenated about riding my bike. Not only does he provide an exceptional quality bike fitting he and the team provide excellent customer service and have a beautiful showroom to display their products. I cannot thank him and his team enough for the time they gave me and for the service they provide the bike community. They have a customer for life.

Your fitting and the BMC Road Machine did their job yesterday. It was my fastest (14.5 mph) ride in the all 13 years of Pelotonia and I did not have to dismount on the significant hills on the last 20 miles of the Century. Next year, I will be 75 and at some point age will catch up, but for the moment I am having the time of my life.

I was amazed at all the data collection points and how well that translated into real world changes on the bike that actually felt much more comfortable. If folks only knew they didn’t have a clue about bike fit, they would be coming to you in droves! I am going to share my data and let people know what a great investment a bike fit is!

OMG I would not have believed that just a few small adjustments made such a huge difference. NO back pain other than the usual fatigue when you do a hard ride. My hip and foot numbness...TOTALLY GONE! This honestly is the best I have felt since the bike was purchased. I am so comfortable with the new lower position and it was easy to keep my arms bent because I was not falling forward the entire time. It is wonderful to feel powerful again on the ride.

I have to say that your adjustments and new equipment you recommended (cleat extenders, longer Speedplay axles, new shoe inserts, shorter stem, etc.) I am stunned at how much of a difference they have made. ...I’ve been up Amsterdam 3 times since your adjustments and haven’t stopped once on them, and I just rode 60 miles yesterday (the longest by me by more than 15 miles) and I felt just fine afterwards — only tired. My more upright position allows me to breath easier, my shoes feel better, my toes don’t go numb, and my knees don’t bow out or get sore. Now I feel like I should have visited you much sooner.

Just another update fyi. Had pretty much a breakthrough last night. Just my typical short 15 mile ride, but did my fastest time ever with my fastest average speed and fastest max speed. Felt totally great with my seat and hands totally fine the whole time. Also had a breathing breakthrough. Just all around great ride. So glad I had the fitting done. Everything’s changed.
— Shawn Rose, road rider, Dayton, Ohio
Remember how bad my fit was when I first came in? I probably wouldn’t be cycling still if I hadn’t come by for that Retul fit 3 years ago.
— David Wise, 55, recreational road rider
Really, that was awesome. And thank you for the fit because 1. I learned a lot 2. I have never felt comfortable until now! I can’t thank you enough!

Just recently hit a little bit over 1,000 miles on my bike that I was fit for and purchased at BioWheels and I could not be happier with how everything turned out! This was my first ever road bike and Mitch took the time to explain everything from the correct form to clipping in and out of my pedals. I was hesitant at first about getting into cycling due to my past experiences where I would wind up incredibly sore after my rides, however getting the proper fit makes all the difference! Hands down the best bike shop in Ohio, thank you to the BioWheels team for all that you do!
— Andrew Kanaly, road cyclist
I went for about an hour yesterday, the bike was amazing. Took some time to get used to it, but my cadence on the flats was way stronger. Climbing also improved with the longer front end. Overall an awesome improvement.
— Willam Baker, 62, recreational road rider
I have ridden twice on the road and once off-road. In short, I love it. I feel like I am getting significantly more power to the pedals. I have been trying to find a negative with the new fit, but cannot. Thank you so much!
— Seth Nuckols, 31, cyclocross & road racer
Wow what a difference! I really did add around 2 mph to my average ride speed and I feel a lot stronger during climbs.
— Tina Ulanowski, 50, triathlete and road rider
I wanted to give you a quick update...your positioning updates have really helped. For a beginner I’m making great strides I just finished a 50 mile Loveland trail ride last Sunday at a 19.25mph pace so I believe I am really starting to get the hang of this and I can tell it’s definitely a sport I can excel in and enjoy. Better yet, I’m halfway to my century ride goal so I’ll have to amend my own goals.
— Michael Lorenz, 28, recreational road cyclist
Just touching base to let you know my rides since the Retul fit have been awesome! I can’t thank you enough, I’m having the best rides ever.
— Cathy Doxey, 60, IM triathlete, Florida
New fit added 2mph for me! I felt real smooth and strong on the bike. Averaged 23.1mph when normally about 21mph. I had virtually no leg fatique the entire ride until the last 5-6 miles and still ran very well...6:36 splits. Overall 4:35 (previous PR was 4:50) and a third place finish!
— Jonathan Bade, 30, triathlete, Dayton, Ohio
Had a great 20 mile ride yesterday morning on what feels like a totally different bike. The hips and back feel great.
